The Latest Wedding Trends for 2026
What Modern Couples Are Embracing

Weddings are evolving in exciting and meaningful ways, and 2026 is shaping up to be a year defined by personalization, immersive experiences, and bold creative expression. Today’s couples are moving beyond tradition for tradition’s sake and instead designing celebrations that feel authentic, intentional, and unforgettable.
A Shift Toward Personal, Meaningful Experiences
Perhaps the most defining trend in modern weddings is the emphasis on individuality. Couples are no longer focused on creating a “perfect” or traditional event—they are curating experiences that reflect their story, values, and personalities. This shift is showing up everywhere—from handwritten vows and custom décor to unique ceremony structures and nontraditional timelines. Smaller guest lists are also becoming more common, allowing for deeper, more meaningful interactions with each attendee. At In Motion Video, we embrace this shift because we've always focused on capturing the personalities of our couples. After all, we do dozens of weddings a year, and who wants their wedding video to look like everyone else's? It the unique personality of our couples that make their wedding video stand out from the crowd.
Weddings as Immersive Experiences
Weddings today are less like single-day events and more like fully designed experiences. Couples are thinking intentionally about how each moment flows—from the welcome experience to the after-party. Interactive food stations, chef-led dining, and open-fire cooking are becoming increasingly popular, transforming meals into entertainment. Guests are no longer just attending a wedding—they’re participating in it. A great example is the wedding we just filmed for JH and Gabi at Top of the Town in Arlington, Virginia where the guests played Kahoot and had to answer questions to demonstrate how much they knew about the couple and their love story. It was a great break from the wedding action, allowed guests to interact, have a good time with each other, and perhaps learn some things they didn't know about the couple. In turn, the bride and groom get to tell their story in a fun and interactive way.
Bold Design and Artistic Expression
Minimalism is giving way to more expressive, art-inspired design. Think layered tablescapes, sculptural centerpieces, dramatic drapery, and statement lighting that transforms entire venues. Even color palettes are evolving. While soft neutrals still have their place, richer tones like burgundy and chartreuse are emerging, alongside nature-inspired hues like sage green, which continues to dominate.
A Return to Nostalgia and Vintage Influence
Nostalgia is playing a major role in wedding aesthetics. Vintage-inspired cakes, film photography, and old-world European design elements are making a strong comeback. This trend blends timeless elegance with modern storytelling, giving weddings a sense of depth and emotional resonance that feels both classic and fresh.
Redefining Traditions
Many couples are rethinking long-standing wedding traditions. From skipping large bridal parties to replacing formal plated dinners with relaxed, lounge-style receptions, the structure of weddings is becoming more flexible. Even classic moments are evolving—“first touch” experiences are rising in popularity, while traditional “first looks” are becoming less common. At In Motion Video, we track these trends and can even make recommendations for couples who are looking to turn their wedding day into a memorable one for friends and family in attendance.
Technology Meets Emotion
Technology is also playing a larger role in wedding planning. More couples are using tools like AI to generate ideas, write vows, or design invitations. However, while technology can streamline the process, it’s clear that couples still value the human touch when it comes to capturing and executing their vision.
The Bottom Line
At its core, the modern wedding is no longer about following a formula—it’s about telling a story. Couples are prioritizing connection over convention, experience over expectation, and authenticity over aesthetics alone.
For professionals in the wedding industry, this presents an incredible opportunity: to not just document or plan an event, but to help craft something deeply personal and truly unforgettable. Whatever choices the couple makes that reflects their personality, we make sure to capture those moments that are reflective of who they are, and what better way to show that to not only guests but for generations to come who get to enjoy their wedding video.
